# Shipping Presets

> Create preset shipping costs for common mailer types

Go to **Settings > Shipping Presets** to create preset costs for your common shipping methods. These presets let you quickly assign shipping costs to orders without typing the amount each time.

## How presets work

A shipping preset is a named cost that you can apply to an order. Your preset should represent your **total shipping cost** — this includes postage, the envelope, top loaders, penny sleeves, team bags, and any other materials you use to ship. When you create or edit an order, you select a preset from a dropdown instead of entering a dollar amount manually.

## Common preset examples

Here are some presets that sellers typically set up:

| Preset                | Description                                                                |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **1 Stamp Order** | Total cost of a single stamp order (postage + envelope + top loader, etc.) |
| **Extra Ounce Order** | Total cost for an additional ounce of postage plus materials |
| **2 Stamp Order**     | Total cost of a two-stamp order plus materials                             |
| **Bubble Mailer** | Cost of the bubble mailer materials only (not the carrier shipping) |

<Note>
  **Bubble mailers and tracked packages:** When you ship as a tracked package (bubble mailer, USPS Ground Advantage, etc.), the carrier shipping cost varies by weight and destination. For these orders, create a preset just for the bubble mailer materials, then add the actual carrier shipping cost as a linked expense on the order. This keeps your packaging costs and carrier costs separate for cleaner tracking.
</Note>

## Creating a preset

1. Go to **Settings > Shipping Presets**
2. Click **Add Preset**
3. Enter a name (e.g., "1 Stamp Order")
4. Enter the cost in dollars
5. Click **Save**

## Using presets on orders

When creating or editing an order, use the shipping preset dropdown to select a preset. The cost is applied automatically. You can always override the preset value by entering an exact amount if the order doesn't fit a standard preset.

<Tip>
  Configure your presets to match your most common shipping methods. If you find yourself repeatedly typing the same shipping cost, it should be a preset.

<Tip>
  **Pro tip:** Set up an [automation rule](/automation-rules) to apply shipping presets automatically based on the number of cards in an order. For example, orders with 1–5 cards can auto-apply the "1 Stamp Order" preset, 6–10 cards the "Extra Ounce Order" preset, and so on. This saves you from manually selecting a preset on every order.
